about us

Welcome to Up n’ Down the road!  A travel blog in which you can read all about our travels and adventures through the Americas and beyond. We are Martin and Liliana, a slightly weird and funny couple currently located in Mexico. We like discovering new places and immerse ourselves in new cultures. In August 2018 we quit our jobs and bought a one-way ticket to Mexico. We have a rough plan, a dream and no end date.

This is our story.

Martin and I met a few years ago in Glasgow, Scotland. We both were pretty much workaholics with roughly working over 10 hours a day (including weekends). When you’re single and living abroad it’s easy to get yourself involved in all sorts of work to keep yourself busy and progress in your career. Martin is from a small town in Austria and I’m from Mexico City. We were far away from ‘home’ when we met and that brought us together and we haven’t looked back ever since. We are true believers that ‘home’ is where the heart is, so we decided to pack our bags and make the road our new home. There is something amazing about road trips, that once you finish one, you’re starting to think when and where it’ll be your next one. We both thrive when we are out and about in our car, enjoying the landscapes, eating local food (when I’m not cooking that is!), meeting people along the way and experience first-hand how to survive in the world in various circumstances.

Martin is an Engineer who likes building stuff. He is that guy you call when something needs fixing or doing, and he will always get things done.

I am also an Engineer by profession, but I’ve always had the aspiration to become a writer or a dancer or a Mathematician or an astronaut and even also a chef.

We don’t do glamorous, although we use the occasional Instagram filter. We enjoy more the isolated places rather than the crowded ones, but we will write and share about everything we see in the Americas. We will let you know all about the car, the life on the road, the people, the adventures and misadventures. We hope to meet you somewhere along our journey, so if you see us in “Alita” our Mitsubishi Montero come and say hello, we’re always up for a chat and a glass of red.
